GOING HULL-DOWN

Many tanks have really strong turrets - but weaker front hulls.

And, most tanks have stronger turrets than the rest of their armor (and, of course, the front of their turret tends to be a lot stronger than the sides or rear).

Therefore, if you want to maximize the effectiveness of your armor, the only target you want to give your opponent to shoot at - is the front of your turret (you have to expose part of your tank in order to shoot at him, so you only want to expose as little as possible, and what you do expose you want to be highly armored - and that’s the turret’s purpose).

So, how do we keep our entire tank protected, only exposing our turrets?

The solution is what’s called ‘going hull-down’.

You take your tank to a position where the front of your hull is protected from fire, the you’re still able to see over-top of the obstacle.  Typically this means parking behind or at the top of a small hill and only peeking your turret over-top and firing - then retreating backwards to cover while you reload.

But, you don’t necessarily need a hill - wreckage, cars, truck, building, etc… can all work.

Simply be aware of the angle your enemy is firing from - and how much of your tank he can hit.  And, then make sure that that area is as small a part of your front turret as possible.
